Airlamp ATEX Turbolite

Wolf ATEX Turbolite lamps are high power compressed air driven units for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. With a safety record of 75 years, Wolf Airlamps are one of the safest high power portable lamps for hazardous areas.

The new generation ATEX Turbolite meets EN 1127 – 'Explosion prevention and protection’, for Europe; and in the USA, FM Class 3600 ‘Electrical Equipment for use in Hazardous (Classified) Locations’. Used extensively in the petrochemical, oil and marine industries, Wolf Airlamps provide illumination in many applications including shotblasting, cleaning and coating of storage tanks and vessels, and for pipeline and structural engineering activities, offering a safer alternative to mains and low voltage lighting where explosive atmospheres present a serious risk to the workforce.

A full range of accessories is available, including anti-static hose, filters, filter stands, airlamp tripods and setting and testing devices.

The standard range consists of two models, both produced in high strength aluminium alloy. The A–TL44A ‘Bay Light’ version provides a high level of all-round general illumination. The A–TL45A ‘Floodlight’ version has a reflector head with a matt reflector giving a wide-angle diffused beam.

The ‘A’ suffix denotes ATEX lightweight aluminium models, reducing Turbolite weight to approximately half that of the brass airlamps. Alternative ‘B’ suffix models A–TL44B and A–TL45B are also ATEX but with brass housings, usable in gassy mines. All lamps are nickel plated to protect against corrosion and are supplied with a bridle and safety hook fitted.

TL44A/B 250w for all round illumination
Peak luminous intensity at 2.5m 70lux
TL45A/B 250w with polished reflect spot
Peak luminous intensity at 5m 2000lux
TL45A/B 250w with matt reflector flood
Peak luminous intensity at 5m 950lux

The Turbolite is powered, purged, pressurised and cooled by compressed air controlled by an integral regulator, which passes through the lamp head and drives the turbine wheel by means of three nozzle plates. The turbine drives a magnet rotor within windings, generating the 24 Volt ac electrical supply which powers the 250 Watt halogen bulb.

Major improvements over the existing models, include sealed bearings, a refined regulator, greater use of stainless steel components, a bulb-life enhancing device and a new silencer, incorporating a particle trap.

Special conditions of certification for all Turbolites are that clean, dry compressed air and anti-static air hose are used to operate the lamp, minimising contamination inside the lamp and dangerous accumulation of static electricity. When used in potentially explosive dust atmospheres a ‘remote exhaust’ must be used, exhausting air to the safe area.
